Phone screenshot sizes

Google Play accepts a range of sizes, unlike the App Store’s fixed dimensions. Use 1080 × 1920 px as your default - it covers all modern Android phones and renders cleanly at Play Store thumbnail sizes.

Feature graphic

Required size: 1024 × 500 px

Format: JPEG or 24-bit PNG (no alpha)

The feature graphic appears as a banner at the top of your app listing and is used when Google features your app in editorial sections, promotions, or “Editors’ Choice.” It must be exactly 1024 × 500 px - no exceptions.

Keep the design simple: your app’s name, a key visual, and a short tagline. Google may crop or overlay the feature graphic, so avoid text near the edges.

Tablet screenshot sizes

Optional, but recommended if your app supports tablets. Apps with tablet screenshots appear more prominently in tablet-specific Play Store searches.

4 common Google Play screenshot mistakes

1.

Wrong aspect ratio

Screenshots outside the 1:2 to 2:1 ratio are rejected at upload. A square screenshot (1:1) is not accepted. A portrait screenshot at 1080 × 1920 px (9:16) is fine.

2.

Using App Store screenshots directly

App Store screenshots at 1290 × 2796 px have an aspect ratio of approximately 9:20, which falls outside Google Play's accepted range. Always export a separate set.

3.

Skipping the feature graphic

The 1024 × 500 px feature graphic is required for editorial placement. Many developers upload the wrong size or skip it entirely, missing potential featuring opportunities.

4.

Too few screenshots

Google Play allows 8 screenshots. Most top-ranked apps use all 8 slots. More screenshots mean more surface area to communicate your app's value before a user decides to download.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the recommended Google Play screenshot size?
Google recommends 1080 × 1920 px for portrait phone screenshots. This covers most modern Android devices and looks sharp at Play Store thumbnail sizes. The minimum is 320 px on the short side; the maximum is 3840 px on the long side.
What is the Google Play feature graphic size?
The Google Play feature graphic must be exactly 1024 × 500 px, saved as JPEG or 24-bit PNG (no alpha). It appears at the top of your app listing when Google features your app in editorial placements.
Do I need tablet screenshots for Google Play?
Tablet screenshots are optional but strongly recommended if your app supports tablets. Apps with tablet screenshots appear more prominently in tablet-specific searches. Use 1080 × 1920 px for 7-inch tablets and 1200 × 1920 px for 10-inch tablets.
Does Google Play accept landscape screenshots?
Yes. Google Play accepts both portrait and landscape screenshots, as long as the aspect ratio stays between 1:2 and 2:1. Landscape screenshots at 1920 × 1080 px are common for games.
